I’m assuming that you have a strategy for your business, but do you know how your marketing is supporting that? Is your strategy the right one? Are you on track with it? Well ‘Get Strategic’ is the first point in my Get Fruitful Marketing Manifesto and it’s the most crucial one.
To take a strategic approach to marketing, you have to start by getting clear on where you are now, and where you want to get to. You need to define your objective and set out your measures for success. The next step is to work out an overall approach for how you’re going to achieve these goals. And then you break it down further, to more specific actions you will take, and put them into a realistic schedule.
Marketing can often seem like an overwhelming and thankless task. It’s relentless, as you can’t let up, and there is always more you can do.
When I worked in theatre marketing, we would say, ‘if a show sells well, people thank the playwright, the director or the actors – and think the success was all down to their talent. But if a show doesn’t sell, it’s time to blame the marketing’!
Having said that, good marketing is not a solution to all your woes, but if you are clear upfront about your objectives, and make a robust time-limited actionable plan to achieve them, then you can sit back and relax at the end knowing that you have done everything possible to achieve your goals.
If you are feeling unclear about your marketing objectives and how they support your over-arching business goals, then maybe I can help? The first step in the Get Fruitful Marketing programme involves getting clarity on how you can create a more passion-fuelled, principled and profitable business. We then explore ways in which your marketing strategy can enable your vision and mission, while ensuring you always stay true to your core values, and never compromise your integrity. If you feel you would benefit from some expert guidance and fresh insight to get to the core of your brand and realise your business potential, drop me an email to email@example.com and find out more.
